Stepping into the light

Welcome to your first step on the road to taking positive action and creating powerful, lasting change in your life.

Therapy working to create a more positive future

Do you sometimes feel as if you are living under a cloud? As if the light has gone from your life?

Day to day life can do this to us. It is full of challenges and unexpected events. Sometimes we take these in our stride but at other times they overwhelm us and threaten our wellbeing.

The cumulative effect of ongoing worries and struggles can undermine our best coping selves and leave us feeling anxious, vulnerable and, at times, helpless.

A whole range of events and situations such as the workplace, exams, social activities, family, relationships may be the sources of challenge and we find ourselves falling back on the same unhelpful patterns of behaviour and response. These are the times when we need help to see the way forward and create a more positive future - to step into the light…..

My Goal

I work in partnership with my clients using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Hypnotherapy and a range of techniques to help them develop their own inner resources and find workable solutions to overcome a variety of issues. My goal is to help individuals restore an overall sense of well-being, confidence and self-esteem.

Our Focus

In my work with clients, we look forward rather than back (unless that proves helpful). We focus on changes you can make and positive actions you can take right now. We work together to set goals and agree a route to achieving those goals. I work with most of clients online, from anywhere in the UK, but in person therapy is also available on request. Please contact me for further details.

Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy

CBT Hypnotherapy is a proven psychotherapeutic technique that combines Cognitive Behavioural Therapy with Hypnosis.

Working with young people

Young people face many pressures in their lives, from peers, school, social media and also the demands they make on themselves. They may find it difficult to cope with their emotions and, without effective help, this can lead to more serious issues such as school refusal, communication and relationship breakdown, panic attacks or self-harming.

Issues I can help with

I conduct my sessions in a confidential, supportive, solution focused way, in a comfortable and safe environment. If you don’t see the issue you are dealing with listed below, please get in touch to see if we can work together. You can read more about therapy with me o my 'How I Work' page.

FAQs

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions you may need depends entirely on you and the difficulties you are facing. No two clients and the same and no two issues follow the same path, so therapy lasts as long as it needs to. On occasions one or two sessions are sufficient to have an impact on a problem.

At the beginning of our work together we will agree a goal and plan a number of sessions to reach that goal. Often this is 5 or 6 sessions. We will regularly review progress and adjust plans as necessary.

How do I know if I need therapy?

You may already be aware of a specific difficulty that you are facing. For example you may be suffering from anxiety, or struggling to maintain healthy relationships. In cases like these working with a professional will help you to better understand your thoughts, emotions and behaviours and find the answers you are looking for. However, you may just feel that something isn’t right, that you have no control over your emotions or that something is holding you back and preventing you from being the person that you want to be. This is usually a sign that there is something amiss; talking to a professional will help you get to the root cause of your feelings and take action to improve things.

Do I need to be referred by my GP?

You do not need to consult your GP or be referred by your GP to attend private sessions with a psychologist or therapist. It is completely voluntary and if you feel that you need help overcoming an issue then get in touch.

What happens in a session?

Therapy sessions are based mostly on talking. We start by exploring your problems in detail, identifying the emotions you are struggling with, current and past experiences affecting you and identifying why you currently feel the way you do. I will help you to identify and challenge your thoughts, feelings and behaviours so you can understand them better and make the necessary changes. Together we will develop more positive ways for you to manage your thoughts and emotions so that you can achieve your goals and live your life on your terms.

How often do I need to attend therapy sessions?

Most people tend to attend sessions every week. This gives you time to think through each session in between, and work on some of the ideas you’ve been discussing in your sessions. Sessions may be spaced out as the identified goals begin to be achieved. All therapy will be tailored to your needs.
